Tukuwool fingering Finish wool

Last year when Laine Magazine started revealing some photographs of the designs they were going to release on issue number 7, there was one that caught my attention right away; a Norwegian-inspired cardigan. Although having bought the magazine when it was launched, in the midst of so many things that happened last year, it was only in the beginning of autumn that I was able to start this project.

I was eager to start, not only because it is a timeless garment but also because I was going to do something I never did, the steeks.

I opted for the same wool as mentioned in the pattern, Tukuwool, which I worship and with which I have already carried out other projects. Since my knitting style is the Portuguese (the one with the yarn around the neck) the fair isle work is all done inside out (purlwise), thus the reading of the scheme is also the other way around.

I did not encounter any major difficulties despite feeling fearful about cutting the steeks. In the end everything went well and it was quite simple. As I don't have a sewing machine, I made the reinforcement using the crochet method. Though, in this design if there is something that I would like to have differently is the steeks for the sleeves. I would prefer if they could be made in the same way as it is for opening the center of the body.

The Marit is perhaps one of the projects that I most enjoyed working on. It is a stunning design. It is a cardigan that will stay forever! It is wonderful, warm & rustic and I was able to use it several times this winter. ❥
